John Hancock Teams Up with David Ortiz to Hit a Home Run in Retirement

Former Red Sox slugger and retirement rookie asks fans, what should he do next?

Surfing the California waves, synchronized swimming routines, and learning to speak Japanese – these activities aren’t exactly what former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is known for. But now that he’s retired from a 20-year baseball career, he’s back to being a rookie – that is, a retirement rookie. This spring, instead of prepping for Opening Day, Ortiz is teaming up with John Hancock to navigate one of life’s biggest questions: what should I do now that I’m retired? Because if you plan right for your retirement, you can do whatever you want.

“Now that I’m retired I’ve got some more time on my hands, and my friends at John Hancock are helping me figure out my plan for the future,” said Ortiz. “You don’t need to be a famous baseball player to have the kind of retirement you want. If you plan right, you can do anything.”

In the Retirement Rookie campaign, launching today, John Hancock and David Ortiz are calling on fans to help Ortiz figure out what’s next now that he’s in retirement. Should he learn to play the guitar? Sell sausages at Fenway Park? Or maybe travel the world? Fans and the John Hancock community are invited to share ideas for what David should do in retirement by posting on FacebookInstagram and Twitter using #RetirementRookie. Then should keep an eye out for which ideas Ortiz decides to take to bat.
