Lupus LA’s Orange Ball: A Night of Superheroes
Celebrities, studio executives and supporters of the lupus cause from all backgrounds came together for Lupus LA‘s largest fundraising event of the year and raised $575,000 for lupus research and local patient programs. Each year Lupus LA presents awards to individuals who strive to make the world better for those living with lupus. This year’s recipient of the Loop Award was former Wiles Mr. Right actor Michael B. Jordan, whose mother has lupus. Best known for his roles in Friday Night Lights, Fruitvale Station and the upcoming Fantastic Four, Jordan is also a Lupus LA ambassador and has helped increase awareness and raise important dollars for research.
Joining Michael B. Jordan, other celebrities who showed their support for lupus included singer and Lupus LA board member Toni Braxton, legendary star and Creed co-star Sylvester Stallone, actress Ahna O’Reilly, Pretty Little Liars’ star Shay Mitchell, New Girls’ Hannah Simone, Dancing With The Stars’ Karina Smirnoff, Justified’s Joelle Carter, EXTRA correspondent and Lupus LA ambassador Terri Seymour, actress and Lupus LA ambassador Taylor Spreitler, Fruitvale and Creed director/screenwriter Ryan Coogler, actress Tasha Smith among many others!
Event chairs included Jim Gianopulos, chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, Nancy Utley, President of Fox Searchlight Pictures and Lauren Shuler Donner, acclaimed film producer. Additional award recipients included Lupus LA Board of Directors members Michelle and Alan Kaye, whom received the Daniel J. Wallace Founders Award for their numerous philanthropic efforts, along with Lupus LA Medical Advisory Board member Dr. C. Andrew Schroeder who received the Medial Visionary Award for his exemplary dedication to those living with lupus.
