Girl Scouts Grand Opening

Girl Scouts Hosted Grand Opening Event for New Inglewood Service Center,

Prepares for 2020 Innovation Center Opening

Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) welcomed more than 600 attendees on Feb. 24 as it opened its newest service center office in Inglewood, Calif. with a grand opening community event and ribbon-cutting. GSGLA’s CEO Lise Luttgens, flanked by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Inglewood Mayor James Butts, Jr., Inglewood City Councilmembers—including Councilman Alex Padilla who presides over the District—and throngs of Girl Scouts opened the center to tours and activities.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters presented a certificate of special recognition to Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles CEO Lise Luttgens during the grand opening of the council’s newest service center in Inglewood, California on Feb. 24.

In addition to special remarks from Luttgens, Congresswoman Waters, and Mayor Butts, Jr., guests also heard from local Girl Scouts who shared the benefits of their respective associations with the organization. KJLH personality Nautica de la Cruz and the station’s street team provided music for guests, and the day’s activities included tours of the Center led by GSGLA staff and local Girl Scouts; a “Yes, I Am” art installation promoting the council’s new recruitment campaign; a chance to sign the Innovation Center’s “Possibilities Wall”; photo opportunities with Girl Scouts’ Camp Lakota goats; opportunities to stock up on Girl Scout cookies; and fun activities and promotions inside the Girl Scout store.

The service center and adjacent planned Inglewood Innovation Center will serve as a program hub to nearly 15,000 girls from Inglewood and surrounding communities; GSGLA aims to ensure all girls have access to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The organization is addressing challenges girls and families from underserved communities may face regarding participation, particularly in areas where Girl Scouting may not be a tradition.

GSGLA will launch a capital campaign to support the expansion project on the property for the Inglewood Innovation Center, which will further increase program opportunities for girls and act as a hotbed for adult volunteer leadership development. The customized, multi-use space will feature a flexible classroom and versatile program environment that integrates components of STE(A)M, entrepreneurship, outdoor, and life skills. The council also aims to leverage the talent and resources of local organizations and corporations as partners for the site’s programming. For more details on the Inglewood Innovation Center capital campaign or corporate/organizational partnering with Girl Scouts in the development of the Center’s programming, please contact GSGLA at giving@girlscoutsla.org.
