The plight of the single woman in search of her Prince Charming has been explored in stories ranging from Cinderella to Sex and the City, and yet, it’s a story that, seemingly, can never be told enough.  But in the upcoming Lifetime Original Movie With This Ring, we not only witness 4 modern women’s journeys to the altar, but we’re also challenged to answer a question that is rarely posed: ” Why do we want to get married in the first place?”

After attending their friend Elise’s (Sudano) wedding on New Year’s Eve, Trista (Hall), a career-driven talent agent, Viviane (Scott), a successful gossip columnist, and Amaya (Cooper), a struggling actress, make a pact to get married within the year to either a new love or a man waiting in the wings. But the close friends face their own set of challenges – Trista has not gotten over her commitment-phobic ex-boyfriend Damon (White), Viviane is secretly in love with Sean (George), the father of her son, and Amaya is desperate to break up her boyfriend Keith’s (Sanders) unhappy marriage so they can live happily ever after. Each woman starts the year with high hopes and dreams of what will happen over the next 12 months…but will they all make it to the altar?

While it may seem a stretch that modern, savvy women would actual enter into a marriage pact, the desire to marry among many career-driven women is very real – and so is the disappointment when they face few desirable options for potential mates. Refreshingly, With This Ring addresses this issue head-on without patronizing, victimizing or criticizing single women.

“The women we’re talking to and talking about [with this film] are women…who are ambitious and who have careers,” Regina Hall told us. “We want every woman to know that life is exactly perfect as it is, and [encourage them to] not wait for the moment [when] this happens or that happens in order to be happy.”

Like any romantic comedy worth its weight, With This Ring delivers hilarious hijinks, dating games and mishaps balanced by poignant private moments such as  newlywed Elise’s (Sudano) raw confession that marriage is far from a fairytale.  The thruline that deftly holds the women together through their ups and downs is friendship – which is something that personally resonated with the film’s star.

“I am a woman who is single… who has also made that vow, ” Hall shared.  “And it has been my friends that have gotten me through a lot of [tough] situations and who remind me of the many great things in my life.”

Written and directed by Nzingha Stewart (Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters), With This Ring is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers are Tracey E. Edmonds (Jumping the Broom) through her Edmonds Entertainment Group, Gabrielle Union (Top Five, Being Mary Jane) in her first producing role and Sheila Ducksworth (Why We Laugh: Funny Women, Soul Food). Casting is by Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd (Fruitvale Station).
