DONATE YOUR HEARTBREAK

DONATE YOUR HEARTBREAK

To Your Favorite Charity For Valentine’s Day With WebThriftStore™

Remember that gift from an ex-partner who broke your heart, but you weren’t quite ready to part with?  Now is the time! This Valentine’s Day you can channel your heartbreak into something good. Today, WebThriftStore.com, the first multi-platform thrift store benefitting over 60 charities and offering one stop shopping for bargain hunters, launches its second annual Donate Your Heartbreak fundraising initiative. People are being encouraged to dig out their unwanted gifts from ex-partners, donate the heartbreak item via http://www.WebThriftStore.com/heartbreak, or the ThriftSnap app, and help raise money for their favorite charity.

Among the dozens of charities to which individuals can donate are the American Red Cross, ASPCA, PETA, Ronald McDonald House charities, Maccabi USA, National Geographic Society, American Wildlife Foundation, Alliance For Lupus Research, New York Cares, PAWS, CitiHope International, among many others.

Established in 2011, WebThriftStore is the first multi-platform marketplace for nonprofit thrift stores, delivering cash for nonprofits, tax deductions for donors, and great bargains for shoppers.  With charity partners such as American Red Cross, ASPCA, PETA and Ronald McDonald House Charities, WebThriftStore is helping change the way millions of people contribute to charity.  A complement to cash fundraising, WebThriftStore is creating a dynamic, branded destination for in-kind donations (clothing, electronics, cars, etc.) that allows nonprofits to hold no inventory and incur no financial risk.

Donations of “Heartbreak” items have already begun to post on WebThriftStore.com, including a Men’s Tiffany “Metropolis” Ring (size 9) for $139.99; a pearl necklace with a silver and garnet heart pendant for $125; and a pair of classic vintage Chanel earrings for $125.

“Our inaugural Donate Your Heartbreak initiative was such a success that we decided to make this an annual event.  Last year, thousands of dollars in jewelry were donated through WebThriftStore.com, and benefitted numerous charities,” said Lynn Zises, Co-Founder, WebThriftStore.com. “Since most charities are not equipped to sell items for cash, like the engagement ring one woman wanted to donate to the ASPCA, WebThriftStore.com provides the perfect solution. We provide charities the ability to set up their own online thrift store and translate goods into cash, while delivering a tax deduction for donors and great bargains for shoppers.”

Donors are invited to post their heartbreak stories when donating their items.  Here are some of the stories behind the heartbreak donations received to-date.

  • Karyn. A divorced mom of two has moved on with her life, but there’s still that Tiffany bracelet she got as an anniversary gift that reminds her of a bad time in her marriage. She has a big heart and hopes that it will do some good by donating it to the Red Cross.
  • Rachel. A single woman had a bad break up and just needed to get rid of every reminder of her ex and the fact that she sometimes attracts the wrong men. She loves animals and hopes her pair of earrings can help the ASPCA.
  • Kay. A divorcee for just over 5 years donated a couple of flasks which she received from her ex-husband, one of which had the phrase “What do you give the girl who has everything?” According to Kay, “Not a flask!”

WebThriftStore.com features a variety of donated items that would be found in any brick and mortar store, including clothing, jewelry, collectibles and electronics, however, this online thrift store enables donors to browse by item as well as by charity, providing a quick, easy and more personal experience for individuals to find those one-of-a-kind pieces at incredible bargain prices.
