Celebrities, medical experts and dance enthusiasts joined together Saturday, May 2nd at Dancing for NED, a dance party to raise funds for the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. NED stands for “No Evidence of Disease,” the complete remission that is the goal of every woman with ovarian cancer.  The event held at Washbow in Culver City, featured a special musical performance by Paul Freeman and a dance performance from past “So You Think You Can Dance” contestants and renowned professional dancers.

NED was the brainchild of writer-producers Dana Baratta and Melissa Rosenberg. After ovarian cancer impacted Baratta, the two lifelong friends sprang into action. “We wanted to support the great work that Dr. Beth Y. Karlan and Cedars-Sinai are doing for ovarian cancer research, prevention and treatment,” said Rosenberg. “And, well, we love to dance – so a dance party to raise money was the obvious move.”

Baratta and Rosenberg built on the previous two year’s success and rallied a group of committed friends and celebrity supporters including Mark Valley, Julia Goldani Telles, Jeff Perry (Scandal), Barret Foa (NCIS: Los Angeles), Charlie Weber (How To Get Away With Murder), Chad Hodge, Emma Dumont, Renée Felice Smith (NCIS: Los Angeles), Gethin Anthony, Danica McKellar, Nick Hounslow and many more who joined together and raised more than $200,000 for ovarian cancer research and prevention.

Actor Mark Valley welcomed the more than 300 guests and introduced the “So You Think You Can Dance” dancers who performed and received a wild applause from the audience. Marcia Cross presented The Pink Party® founder, boutique owner, designer, stylist and fashion director of FWRD.com Elyse Walker with The Visionary Award. Dr. Karlan took to the stage and thanked the guests for their generous support. The party resumed with an electrifying Flash Mob performance and guests joined in for a night of dancing.

“Dancing for NED is a great opportunity to celebrate life and have fun while raising funds to advance research and improve survival for women with ovarian cancer,” said Dr. Karlan, director of the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program, which promotes early detection and treatment for ovarian cancer.

Proceeds from the event benefits the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program, one of the nation’s top 10 gynecologic oncology programs. Dr. Karlan is a gynecologic cancer surgeon and an internationally renowned expert in the field of women’s cancers. She holds several prestigious appointments, including a professorship with the American Cancer Society, and was a Presidential appointee to the National Cancer Advisory Board of the National Cancer Institute.
