WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT

WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT: 10 YEARS OF SERVICE

You’ve seen the PSA’s featuring celebrities like Mark Wahlberg and the late James Gandolfini, but how much do you really know about Wounded Warrior Project?

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower Wounded Warriors.

The purpose of Wounded Warrior Project is to raise awareness and to enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members; to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other; and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. What started as a desire to provide comfort items to wounded service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center has grown into a holistic rehabilitative effort to assist warriors with visible and invisible wounds as they recover and transition back to civilian life.

Established in 2003 in Roanoke, Virginia, the organization relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in 2006. In addition to serving as the home base for Wounded Warrior Project, Jacksonville is also the location of the organization’s Sacrifice Center, a museum space using the words of warriors and their families to tell their stories of empowerment.

Tens of thousands of wounded service members, family members, and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs, and through these programs and support from the public, the Wounded Warrior Project realizes its vision to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in United States’ history.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) programs are specifically structured to engage warriors, nurture their minds and bodies, and encourage their economic empowerment. Warrior families and caregivers are provided comfort, care, and education to help support the recovery of their injured warrior. All programs are provided free of charge for warriors and their families.

Additional Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) program offices are located throughout the United States. To learn more and help support Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP), please visit: woundedwarriorproject.org.
