HERB RITTS: LA STYLE

During the 1980’s and 1990’s, Los Angeles–based photographer Herb Ritts revolutionized fashion photography.  Throughout his career, Ritts’ bold contrasts, creative use of the L.A. landscape and his seamless blend of art and culture in black and white still photography distinguished him as one of the greatest photographers to ever pick up a camera. Music video fans will remember his work on videos like Madonna‘s “Cherish,” Chris Isaak‘s breakthrough “Wicked Game,” and Janet Jackson’s “Love Will Never Do (Without You) to name a few.

He inspired a generation of photographers and filmmakers alike and helped transform models like Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell from catwalk queens to cultural icons.

From April 3 to August 26, 2012 a portion of his works dubbed “Herb Ritts LA Style will be featured at the J. Paul Getty Museum.  The collection includes stunning fashion works, as well as pieces featuring actor Richard Gere, track and field star Jackie-Joyner Kersee and Olympic diving champion Greg Louganis.  Here is just a sneak peek for those who may not make it to the Getty to witness the genius of Herb Ritts in person.
