To Get You Ready for Sexy Little Dress Season!

From Tyler Lough

The temperatures may be falling outside, but this is the beginning of one of the biggest party seasons of the year, which means things are about to heat up! Have you bought your sexy little dress, yet?  And, more importantly, do you love the way you look in it?

If you’re looking to lose weight, tone your body or atone for your anticipated overindulging here and there between Halloween and New Year’s, then you’ll definitely want to check out celebrity fitness trainer Tyler Lough’s tips for getting and staying hot throughout the cool autumn months.

TIP #1 – Eat right. Smaller plates=smaller portions.  It’s tempting to overeat this time of year, but the more you control yourself at the dinner table, the better. And when it comes to drinking, there are a few important things to consider.  First, most mixed drinks are extremely high in sugar.  If you’re keeping track of your daily caloric intake, don’t forget to add those calories, too.  Also, alcohol slows your metabolism down, and that can lead to weight gain.  So if you don’t want to “just say no” to the cocktails, then try to just say “yes” sparingly!

TIP #2Get plenty of rest.  Once you get on a workout roll, it’s easy to overdo it.  But it’s important to give your body time to rest between workouts so you can make the most of your time in the gym.

TIP #3 – Make your workout routine a priority. Between holiday shopping, parties and every day adventures, schedules can get pretty hectic this time of year.  When juggling so many balls in the air, it’s easy to let one slip.  But consistency is the name of the fitness game.  Commit to your program and, if you need a little help in the accountability department, find a workout buddy, to help you stay on track.

TIP #4 – Start slow and build.  Set your goals ahead of time and increase your workout intensity incrementally every day.  Give yourself enough time to progress – getting in shape doesn’t happen overnight!  And as you move through the coming weeks, continually challenge yourself.  Don’t settle into a routine of the same old thing.  Your body will get used to that and will soon plateau.

TIP # 5 Work ALL of your muscle groups – You already know that your workout routine should include a mix of cardio and toning exercises to burn fat and sculpt, but adding a bicep curl to the end of your basic lunge or tightening your core while you’re jogging will kick up the way your muscles are working.  Finding ways to involve as many muscles as possible will increase the overall effectiveness of your workouts.

TIP #6 – Don’t forget to breathe!  Sometimes we get so focused on our reps and our calories burned, that we inadvertently hold our breath.  Breathing is essential to life, so of course it’s essential to working out, too!

In addition to these great tips, here are some of Ty’s favorite moves to help you tone your arms, abs, hips, thighs and buns.

FOR ARMS:  TRY A ROPE PULL DOWN AND SLOWLY RELEASE.  The amount of the weight isn’t important – especially when you’re first starting out. Remember to keep your repetitions high. Try to do about 3 sets of 15-20 reps.

FOR ABS – TYLER RECOMMENDS CRUNCHES. Using a ball will help isolate all of the muscles in your core.  You can try the traditional method, or with your arms crossed over your chest as pictured here.

FOR HIPS, THIGHS AND BUNS – Good old-fashioned squats and lunges work all of the large muscle groups in these areas.  Add a dumbbell to increase the effort the muscles put in.  And remember to add a curl to the end of your lunges to get your arms involved in the action!
